John Chancey offers up his bold predictions for Clemson and college football.

Bold Predictions – Clemson

  1. Clemson will not have a 1,000 yard rusher for the second year in a row – It’s not impossible that a player will establish themselves as a feature back early in the season, but it looks very likely that Clemson will have running back by committee.  That being said, fresh legs and a better, deeper rotation at offensive line will give multiple RB’s a chance to log a lot of yards this season.
  2. Andrew Booth, Jr. will win the 2021 Jim Thorpe Award for best defensive back player – Derek Stingley, Jr. will be the favorite to win this, but Booth now has the chance to be the #1 corner for the Tigers this season and he will take advantage of the opportunity.  There aren’t many teams on Clemson’s schedule that prefer the run over the pass, and if the opponent falls behind, they will pass even more, and I think Mr. Booth will be there for all of it.

Bold Predictions – College Football

  1. Sam Howell won’t be the 1st quarterback taken in the 2022 draft – That honor will belong to USC quarterback Kedon Slovis, who made Trojan fans quickly forget JT Daniels.  Don’t get me wrong: Howell is very good, and he will be a high draft pick too. I think Slovis has a more rounded team supporting him.  I think Howell will be in more situations where he needs to play hero ball, and sometimes it won’t go his way.
  2. Rutgers will make a bowl game in 2021 – The Scarlet Knights have a favorable schedule to get to 6-6.  They have two strong road win opportunities at Syracuse and Illinois, and four very winnable home games.  A bowl in Year 2 for Schiano will be very respectable.
